About This Lesson

Children will examine the images of Garden Party on the Terrace of a Country Home, hearing briefly what each is about. They will then brainstorm a story about the image with the teacher and act out the scenario they’ve imagined. Appropriate for Early Childhood Education (Pre-K and younger). ECE teachers might want to provide extended time so young students could really explore with the garden party. Consider using different types of clothes than shown in the visual to help students get into character. ECE-AR, ECE-OR, ECE-AR-dr, ECE-OR-sp, ECE-OR-re, ECE-OR-ex

I was not able to locate the story, A Windy Afternoon, that was to be read to the students. I think that although the concepts are at grade level, the art work could be simplified to match the maturity level of the students. A great deal of background knowledge has to go into this lesson for children in kindergarten and grade one to understand this particular time period and the art that is described. Perhaps older students would appreciate this a bit more.
