About This Lesson

This activity is the culmination of my lessons on new arms and armaments technology in World War I. Students should have already learned about the new technology (I've included the powerpoint presentation that I use to teach this along with 2 handouts). I also show clips from the film "All Quiet on the Western Front" to give students a realistic picture of what these new war arms feel and sound like. Once they understand the technology, they are then asked to write a guide for soldiers going from basic training to the front lines - 7 "lessons" they should know before entering the war.

I was looking for a creative way to wrap-up our WWI unit and came across your idea for creating a guide for soldiers fighting in WWI. I love how this activity causes students to think about the war from a new perspective.
