About This Lesson

In this activity, half the class receives Image Set 1 (showing positive perspectives or masking negative aspects), and the other half receives Image Set 2 (showing negative perspectives or controversial aspects) of the same 15 events, eras, or movements in American history. Students assume the role of textbook editor and decide which images they will include and what narrative they will tell about American history.

Great Idea! Thanks for

Great Idea! Thanks for sharing! We adapted this a bit by creating neutral blurbs for each event and giving the two groups the blurb to go with the image. Each group then created a headline to accompany their blurb & image. We compared their work and discussed why their headlines were so different when the factual information both groups worked from was the same. The kids loved the activity! Thanks again for the images and idea!!
