Born in Los Angeles, California, Rashad Brown attended urban private school up until 8th grade. In 8th grade, he transferred to a suburban private school. It was here that he noticed the difference in his education. The teachers in the suburbs definitely did not take the time and energy to make sure that he got what he needed tot succeed. In high school, he attended a suburban high school that was majority Asian. He struggled with the competition and trying to stay on level. In the urban setting he was always in the running for valedictorian or salutatorian. Once he moved to the suburbs, that all changed. Rashad bypassed his life long dream of being a doctor when he began what was supposed to be a short "gig" through Teach for America. After his two year commitment, he knew he couldn't turn his back on his students. His two year job, ended up being an eleven year run. Since middle school is where he noticed his loss, he decided to teach middle school science. Currently, he works for the United Federation of Teachers as a Chapter Advocate, helping to strengthen the union at the school level.
