Ruskin Productions uses film versions of celebrated one-man plays to tell the stories of maligned, misused and misunderstood men from American and European history. We believe that this way of presenting history to students has four distinct advantages:
• Film is a media that students are familiar with and it is a dynamic way of bringing history alive.
• The films have Spanish and English sub-titles and scripts are provided.
• Audiences get a distinct personal viewpoint from men who have lived through the history that they are talking about.
• Each Chapter in the film raises specific questions for students to investigate, or teachers can choose their own questions.
We are excited to be working with The Harry Bridges Project and The Life of Thomas Paine Productions. Our films are of live performances of their original plays, which were researched and written with distinguished scholars as consultants. They were filmed by legendary filmmaker Haskell Wexler and aired for multiple years on PBS. They are divided into Chapters, 10-15 minutes long, and each Chapter comes with three questions to research. Alternatively, teachers can combine Chapters and/or use their own questions if they wish.
