About This Lesson

One of the most memorable scenes in Macbeth is Macbeth’s soliloquy in Act V in which his apathy towards life becomes apparent. In his lust for power, Macbeth has lost his friends, the trust from his people, and now his wife has killed herself. Many authors have alluded to Macbeth in their writings. In Robert Frost’s poem Out, Out---, Frost alludes to Macbeth’s soliloquy from Act V. In this lesson, students will compare Frost's poem with Shakespeare's play.
