About This Lesson
This lesson serves as the anticipatory set for the unit titled “The Art of Giving.” In addition to cultivating student interest and engagement, this lesson is the first in a series of lessons that will explore the theme of “giving” and provide a context for discussion of key vocabulary concepts in the unit. It will also provide students with an entry into the close-reading process through the analysis of the modern children’s classic, The Gift of Nothing.
