About This Lesson
In this lesson, students will conduct a close reading of the second half of the classic short story, “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry for the purpose of analyzing the text for key ideas and details, as well as elements of craft and structure. Using textual evidence to support their analysis, students will make inferences about the theme of the text as it develops and use various vocabulary strategies to determine the meaning of unknown words.
