About This Lesson
In this lesson, students will conduct a close reading of the poem titled, “The Gift” by contemporary poet, Li Young Li. The TPCASTT strategy will be used to analyze the text for key ideas and details, as well as elements of craft and structure. Using textual evidence to support their analysis, students will make inferences about the theme of the poem as it develops and write a short essay using their TPCASTT analysis charts as a reference and pulling textual support from the poem to support their conclusions.
This is a wonderful lesson with engaging activities for 9th or 10th graders.
