About This Lesson

The topic that I intend to teach is dance choreography. I will be working with intermediate and advanced level students, who already have a solid understanding of dance fundamentals and styles. This is a high school elective class for grades 9 through 12. I am choosing to focus on this topic because choreography is an essential part of dance training and learning. Students must be able to identify choreography styles and choreography elements (technique, formations, storytelling, performance, etc.) They can then learn how to choreograph themselves. The objective of this unit is to understand the value and importance of choreography in the dance industry and community. If students can understand and identify its importance, other aspects of dance are improved as well. The goal of instruction will be to provide students with resources and support regarding this topic, while allowing them individual and collaborative practice for deeper learning and creativity.
