About This Lesson
Having investigated the first selected passage from The Dark Is Rising, (Lessons 1-3) the class is now ready to move on to a second passage. As shown in the lesson objectives above, Lesson 4 consists of analyzing this new text in order to determine how particular elements of a story interact. Specifically, the students will look at the events that occur immediately after Will’s night of terror in his attic room, determine the significance of the mysterious music that he hears upon waking the next morning, and explain how the setting of this text moves the story forward.
