About This Lesson

This lesson is a good review for mass, volume, and hands on for finding density. The handout activity is similar to the 8th grade Science Performance Test in New York State. In the activity, not only do students have to determine the mass of the blocks, but also the 3 dimensions and volume. Additionally, they have to Predict whether or not the blocks will float or sink in water. Afterwards, students have to actually place the block in the water to see if their prediction was correct. Two of the 3 questions are application questions.

Great job turning this into more of an inquiry lab! The prediction column on the data table is a great addition. I also appreciated your thorough rubric.
