About This Lesson

In this lesson, students will read a chapter from "Elijah of Buxton," a historical novel about a young African-American boy in the 1800s. The students will write an epilogue and establish the setting, characters, and tone, using the same dialect and first person narration (Elijah’s point of view) to continue the flow of the book. Students will also use their knowledge of the theme of "Elijah of Buxton" and show the main character’s growth from fragileness to bravery in their epilogue.
