About This Lesson

This is a claim/counter claim essay on the question - to what extent was Athens a democracy. Prior to this assignment, students read and annotated a portion of Pericles' Funeral Oration to determine what, according to Pericles, Athenian Democracy was like. Students then answered a series of DBQs and engaged in a modified DBQ essay.

Resources: I pieced together primary and secondary sources by searching for "Athenian Democracy DBQ." Search for "Modified DBQ" if you are unfamiliar with this method.
