About This Lesson

I used these guided reading plans for a 3rd grade AIS Reading group. I noted the parts of my lessons that were aligned to specific NY Common Core State Standards for Reading. I wanted to plan for the different types of support my students needed (word solving, vocabulary, comprehension) to read and understand this story. I did not ask all of the questions I had planned. Aligned to Common Core State Standard: RL.3.1, RL.3.2, RL.3.3, RL.3.4, RL.3.5

Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, distinguishing literal from nonliteral language.
Refer to parts of stories, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a text, using terms such as chapter, scene, and stanza; describe how each successive part builds on earlier sections.
