About This Lesson
This lesson plan introduces students to the philosophies of John Locke and Thomas Hobbes. It is designed as an introduction to The American Enlightenment, and works well as a pre-cursor to talking about the Declaration of Independence. At the end, there is an interesting activity that asks students to decide: Are humans inherently good or inherently evil? Aligned to Common Core State Standard: RI.11-12.9
