About This Lesson

The attacks on 9/11 killed nearly 3,000 innocent individuals. As the nation continued to grieve in the months following the attacks, people began to come together in various ways in order to display resilience and to move forward. Use this lesson plan to explore the question: How do communities move forward after a tragic event?

In this lesson, students will:

  • Examine a piece of evidence showing how New Yorkers reacted in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
  • Consider why and how a society moves forward after a tragic event.
  • Assess the potential dangers of moving on too quickly.

Lesson plans include interactive images, videos, and links, that are best viewed directly from our website using the link in the resources tab.

This resource appears in Module 5 of our 9/11 Primer.
