About This Lesson

All students will participate in the Whole Group experience led by the classroom teacher. The introductory lesson will engage students in interpreting a fraction as a division problem. The process focuses on developing students’ ability to write and interpret whole number division story problems and to express answers in the form of a fraction or mixed number. Students will also use visual models and equations to represent problem situations. Aligned to CCSS: 5.NF.3

Standards

Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (𝑎/𝑏 = 𝑎 ÷ 𝑏). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
