About This Lesson

This is a fifth grade ELA unit based on the A. Chapman book, Number the Stars. This is lesson 5 of 8 lessons in this unit. Objectives are <BR>
1. Students will execute my role in literature circles<BR>
2. Students will display knowledge information <BR>
3. Students will have a clear understanding of the star of David and it’s role in the story<BR>
4. Students will complete the revising stage <BR>

Standards

Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language such as metaphors and similes.
Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 5 topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.
With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
By the end of the year, read and comprehend informational texts, including history/social studies, science, and technical texts, at the high end of the grades 4–5 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
