About This Lesson

After discovering a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan where it was believed that Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda, was living, President Barack Obama and his national security team authorize a raid known as Operation Neptune Spear to confirm bin Laden's presence. Use this lesson plan to explore the question: How was Operation Neptune Spear carried out, and what was the country's reaction to its outcome?

In this lesson, students will:

  • Understand the preparation for, and subsequence of, the raid carried out on Osama bin Laden's Abbottabad compound.
  • Examine multiple responses to Osama bin Laden's death

Lesson plans include interactive images, videos, and links, that are best viewed directly from our website using the link in the resources tab.
