The lesson is designed to introduce the enlightenment period, but you have to already have built some background for students.
I really liked this lesson! I loved the link between the Declaration and courage - I hadn't thought of really drawing that principle out. I really loved the discussion questions, and the examples of courageous acts. I made some changes - we have a 45 minute US History class, so we only read up to the grievances. As students read I paused and asked them some check for understanding questions. Also, I noticed that the assessment wasn't included as part of the word document, so I wasn't able to see that part of it.
