About This Lesson
In this lesson, students will read a chapter from "Elijah of Buxton," a historical novel about a young African-American boy in the 1800s. The students will focus on two chapters of the text and determine the theme of the novel using close read strategies. Students will then identify how the main character evolved and changed throughout the novel.
