About This Lesson
In this lesson, students will learn to analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme. Specifically, students will explore how the symbol of a tree used in "Speak" follows Melinda’s development as a character. They will the analyze Melinda's development over the course of the novel and peer review each other's work.
