From the age of 11 to 21, I witnessed a horrible war and a revolution in the country I was born in.
I witnessed educational reforms, the destruction of musical instruments, and restrictions on learning the truth about current events. Freedom to teach reminds me of my teenage years of wanting to learn the truth. After 30 years of living in the US, freedom to teach made me realize how wonderfully our community can come together and help enrich the lives of so many students. Freedom to teach is freedom to let our future generations be creative, talented, and themselves.

Freedom to teach means that I am backed by my local union members and those across the country.
Teaching is hard and we need other teachers to share the stress and frustrations, but most importantly, we need others who can share the true joy of what we do!!
Thank you for adding to the discussion, Niki!
Freedom to teach means that I am able to supply my students with the knowledge in the content areas as I feel necessary and appropriate without always worrying about the limitations.
I can allow students to learn at their pace and differentiate accordingly to what I believe is necessary. Freedom to teach is not about someone else placing instructions or plans on what is best for my own students.
Thanks for participating, Kendra!
Freedom to Teach means students have the freedom to learn from educators who are not encumbered by top-down mandates.
Freedom to Teach means that educators have the autonomy to do what's best for our children, not what looks good for those who are not in the classroom.
Thank you for sharing what Freedom to Teach means to you!
I agree, a passionate teacher can make all the difference. Thanks for participating in the discussion!
Thank you for participating, Corey!
Freedom to Teach is respecting and trusting educators as professionals.
Teachers are hired based on what skills they have and are able contribute to the team. When teachers are confined to rigid curricular boundaries, those skills and creativity that are the gifts/talents of the educator are snuffed out. The students suffer and the teacher withers.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Gina. I agree!
Freedom to teach means to give my students the right opportunities to learn the lessons and meet the standards in the way that best suits them for success.
It also allows me to have some flexibility to teach them in the ways they learn.
Great point! Thanks for participating, Angela!
Freedom to teach means that I am supported as I expand my knowledge of effective teaching strategies, that I am allowed to incorporate games and neuroscience and new technologies to keep students committed to reaching their goals.
I work with adult learners seeking their GED so we are all problem-solving wizards and I believe in creating an environment that supports and challenges their thinking.
Thank you for sharing, Morgana!
