About This Lesson

Kumu Hina, a teacher at a public charter school in Hawaiʻi, explains the gender-fluid language she has coined for her students who are “in the middle” between male and female spirit, and why they should be looked up to rather than down at. The lesson is an opportunity for students to examine the multifaceted and evolving nature of identity.
